A truly fascinating interview with, without a doubt, one of the people in the world who knows the most about double-top guitars — and, in fact, about so-called “traditional” guitars as well. From start to finish, this interview is packed with extremely interesting information and insights.
All of this comes from Qingchuan Li, a classical guitarist from Beijing, guitar collector and dealer, who lived many years in Germany and a very close friend of Matthias Dammann for many years.
This gives us a unique opportunity to delve into Dammann’s world and explore the story behind the invention of the double-top guitar, drawing on the countless conversations Qingchuan has had with Dammann himself, as well as with many other leading figures in the world of double-top guitars in Germany.
It is a real privilege to have access to this information, as well as to the many insights and practical perspectives that Qingchuan shares throughout this interview. They allow us to better understand this type of guitar in an open, objective, and precise way — and, at the same time, to apply this knowledge when looking at and analyzing so-called “traditional” guitars.
