During the time in Athens, visiting the great guitar maker Dominique Field, MaderaGuitarras.com also had the opportunity to visit the Greek guitar maker Antonis Hatzinikolaou. It was Dominique himself who recommended Antonis to us, speaking very highly of his work and his qualities as a guitar maker.
Dominique and Antonis have met several times, and Antonis has had the opportunity and privilege of gaining valuable knowledge and receiving wise advice from Dominique.
In this interview, we explore Antonis’s world, the environment he has created around guitar making, and the instruments he is currently building.
What makes Antonis particularly interesting is that he is not only a guitar maker but also a former professional guitarist. He previously studied classical guitar at the Royal Academy of Music in England. In this sense, Antonis is bilingual in the worlds of guitar making and guitar performance, and it is fascinating to explore how this dual perspective may influence his work as a guitar maker.
Antonis is undoubtedly one of the traditional guitar makers worth discovering in Greece today, doing excellent work and building instruments of outstanding quality. He is also a person with a warm, humble and pleasant personality, which makes meeting him a real pleasure.
