DESCRIPTION & CONTENTS
Bruno and Catherine Marlat have spent years gathering extensive documentation on the luthier René Lacote. Thanks to them, for the first time a book has been produced that retraces the life of this luthier and the history of his fruitful collaborations. It shows the evolution of his work and a selection of instruments from his workshop.
It includes a life-size drawing of a Lacote guitar from 1826.
Text by Bruno and Catherine Marlat; photos: Alberto Martinez; artistic direction: Hervé Ollitraut-Bernard; plan: Karel Dedain.
Lacote was nearly 30 when he decided to become a luthier. He put all his skill, taste and creativity into making guitars. The tonal qualities of his instruments won him the approval and esteem of the virtuoso guitarists who visited Paris in the first half of the 19th century. This success gave Lacote the opportunity to experiment with a wide range of instruments, giving free rein to his inventiveness. This book retraces the life of this instrument maker and the story of his fruitful collaborations. It shows the development of his work and a selection of instruments from his workshop.
